AC Maintenance & Repair in San Jose
FairPrice Heating & Cooling performed an AC maintenance service for a San Jose homeowner during peak summer heat. The visit uncovered a failing capacitor and low refrigerant levels, causing indoor temperatures to reach 86.2°F. Our technician replaced the capacitor and recharged the system with R-410A refrigerant, restoring cooling and dropping the temperature down to 66.8°F — a 19.4°F improvement.
The Challenge
During one of San Jose’s hottest stretches, a homeowner reached out to FairPrice Heating & Cooling for an AC maintenance service. The system was struggling to keep up, and indoor temperatures had climbed to a sweltering 86.2°F — far from comfortable. It was clear the system needed professional attention.
What We Found
Our licensed technician performed a comprehensive inspection of the air conditioning system. Using a Fluke 62 MAX infrared thermometer, the tech confirmed the elevated indoor temperature. Upon inspecting the outdoor condenser unit, two issues were identified:
A failing capacitor — the existing capacitor, dated from 2019, had degraded and was no longer performing within spec. A weak capacitor can prevent the compressor and fan motors from running efficiently, reducing overall cooling output.
Low refrigerant levels — the system was low on R-410A refrigerant, which directly impacts the system’s ability to absorb and transfer heat.
Our Solution
The Work Performed
The FairPrice technician got to work right on-site:
Replaced the capacitor with a new, properly rated unit to restore reliable motor startup and operation.
Connected a refrigerant manifold gauge set to the condenser to accurately measure system pressures.
Recharged the system with R-410A (Forane 410A) refrigerant to manufacturer-specified levels.
Ran the system and monitored performance to confirm the repairs were effective and the unit was cycling properly.
The Results
After the capacitor replacement and refrigerant recharge, the results spoke for themselves — indoor temperatures dropped from 86.2°F down to 66.8°F, a 19.4°F improvement, verified with the Fluke IR thermometer. Another happy San Jose customer with a cool, comfortable home.
As our technician shared on-site: “We did a maintenance on one more happy customer. Changed capacitor, adding refrigeration. Let the system run, see what the results are and move on to the next customer. Happy San Jose customer!”
